Another year over, another batch of beauty brilliance tried and tested by beauty junkies everywhere. But in case you missed anything or need inspiration on what to try next, who better to ask than some of the leading ladies in beauty? Here, they look back on 2017 and share their top finds; from skin-boosting gadgets to the latest innovations in makeup, read on for some serious Christmas list potential.

KATY YOUNG

Beauty Director, Harpers Bazaar
  • I’m not usually one for gimmicks, but Dr Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite EyeCare Pro (£175 spacenk.com) uses big science, working with the power of red light to boost collagen production in the skin’s dermis, thereby plumping wrinkles up and out. Just as a red light should, these goggles also force its wearer to stop for three minutes while they work their magic; I love a multitasking product.

ATEH JEWEL

Beauty Journalist and creator of jeweltonesbeauty.com
  • For years I’ve been fighting for diversity and shades for all within the beauty industry, so the success of Fenty Beauty has been very validating. I have used the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb (£16, harveynichols.com) everyday. It has a slight vanilla scent and a wider lip applicator, which seems so simple but for women like me with plumper lips it’s so fabulous and one swipe does the job.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
Finally a lipgloss that suits ALL skin tones.

LEE PYCROFT

Makeup artist and emotional wellbeing coach
  • The best product I tried this year was Murad Pore Extractor Pomegranate Mask (£30, murad.co.uk). My nose and chin have enlarged pores and this product contains the potent combo of a gentle exfoliant and mask that leaves my skin looking refined and glowing. I’ve been using it regularly and can see and feel a difference in my skin.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
You get a mask and exfoliator in one pot – genius.

GEORGIA DAY

freelance beauty writer and head of editorial and content at Space NK
  • Legology Air-Lite (£62) has been a bit of a life-saving discovery for me this year. As a perennial bag lady with a hefty daily commute, my legs are always heavy and knackered at the end of the day. One layer of this slathered on and pummeled in, and I feel instantly lighter and refreshed. I have to admit to using it head to toe, I just can’t get enough of that lemon-y scent.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
It gives an instant hit of energy.

NADINE BAGGOTT

health and beauty journalist and You Tube vlogger
  • I apply a hyaluronic acid serum everyday and the new updated Deciem NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex 2 (£38, victoriahealth.com) goes into my skin easily, instantly hydrates and softens fine lines and crepiness. Some HAs are sticky and drying, not this one and it never pills under makeup or secondary serums or creams either.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
It’s a Hyaluronic Acid serum with a difference – no sticky residue.

SONIA HARIA

Beauty Director, The Telegraph
  • I love any sort of gadget, especially one that packs a punch in as little as four minutes a day. With its combination of LED lights and gentle micro currents, Carita My CLE (£350, carita.co.uk) helps to keep my skin toned and bright. Added bonus: I can use it while sitting on the sofa watching Gogglebox.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
    It’s a turbo-charged brightening gadget.

DANIELLE FOX

Beauty Editor, Net A Porter and Porter Magazine.
  • I love a faux tan and I’ve recently discovered Tan Luxe Hydra Mousse Hydrating Self-Tan Mousse in Light-Medium (£37 net-a-porter.com), a tanning game changer. It’s surprisingly moisturising and if you are time poor and apply quickly, any mistakes don’t show up. Every time I use it I get comments on how ‘fresh’ I look and questions on where I have been on vacation!
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
It’s the perfect combination of hydration and tan.

KATE SHAPLAND

Founder of Legology
  • Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in shade 08 Plum (£18.50) is the best throw-on-and-get-on-with-the-day lip colour I’ve used in years. It’s the right texture, excellent tenacity, good conditioning and comfort and the colour, a deep plum is perfect: not too brown/orange/red.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
It’s an easy intro to on-trend berry tones.

GRACE TIMOTHY

Managing Editor, Lift Off
  • I’m a serum-obsessive, I’ve generally got four or five on rotation at any one time. But this year Snoxin II (£18.99, Boots.com) – the souped-up revamp of faux-Botox, Snoxin – has been more than just a serum. I’m also using it beneath my base as a primer to soften lines on my forehead and under my eyes, and even popping a little on top of the matte textures for a dewy, fresh-faced finish.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
It’s the ultimate multi-tasker with instant AND cumulative results.

PHILIPPA PEARNE

Associate Editor, Lift Off
  • My blotchy, sometimes-dry-sometimes-oily (grr) skin likes to keep me on my toes so when anything comes along that can cover all scenarios, I’m hooked. You name the base, I’ve tried it, but Christian Breton BB Cream (£27, lookfantastic.com) is different. It’s a glossy, super-smooth, easy-to-blend BB cream that’s thick enough to provide satisfying coverage and thin enough to look natural, not cakey.
    TRY IT BECAUSE…
It offers a stronger coverage than other BB creams.
